Welcome to Collide

Cornerstone Community Church's Single Adult Ministry for ages 24 to 37.

The Need ...

Today our society as a whole is moving toward a more “singles” society.  The country as a whole is 49% single.  Major metropolitan areas are higher, New York is 59% and Los Angeles is 54%.  Even looking at the ages from 30-34, the percentage of people that has never been married has tripled since 1970. Since our society is moving in this direction why are so many churches
dismissing their singles ministry?  Why is their a lack of stability in these ministries?

At Collide we understand the need for singles to get connected, the need to know that I have people strong in faith looking after me!  People that will help me understand biblical truth and help me grow in my walk with the Lord. A place where I can be a blessing to others; a place where I can share my gifts and talents with everyone in the group.

The Vision ...

Would it be wonderful if we can be at a place where people truly look out for one another, a place where there was genuine concern, a place where I can care for people and where others can care for me.  The Bible States:
John 13:34-35  "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  35  "By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
When Jesus said this verse, it was the night before he was crucified so the disciples had a clear understanding of what biblical “love” is all about. Yes, there are emotions and feelings associated with love, but this “love” is more than that.  This is a love of action, a love of choice.  A love that chooses to put others before self.  A love that chooses to highly esteem others, while humbling oneself.  A love that chooses to leave the comforts and splendor of Heaven and come to a world where one is despised, betrayed, humiliated, mocked, and tortured.  A love that chooses to give oneself to people who are ungrateful. A love that chooses to sacrifice one’s life for people that despises you.
This is truly a new commandment.  A new commandment for two reasons. The first is because Jesus himself was going to be an example to this love.  The second reason is found in the following chapter.

"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”                                   John 14:16-17

The second reason is the Holy Spirit will give us the strength to live out this kind out “love”.  We are human, flawed, and imperfect but thankfully God has provided us the courage and strength to live this out.

What would this look like if we lived out this kind of “love”?  We would be at a place that is like no other!  A place where we can be with people who are caring and concerned. A place where we can be honest with ourselves and seek out true lasting friendships.  A place where our loneliness and hurts fade away.  A place where people will share the burdens of life.  A place where we can be challenged to live out this kind of love not only to our friends but to our families.  A place where we can have an accurate picture of God and live for His glory.  A place where we will have a glimpse of Heaven.  A place right here in Simi Valley, a place in our church, a place right here in our fellowship.

By God’s grace, I believe this can happen but we all need to make a choice to collectively do this.  A choice just like Jesus made.  A choice to “love” others.  A choice to put others before self.
